Upson Targets Double Figures

Midfielder Ed Upson has said he wants to get into double figures this season after firing in a brace to sink Nottingham Forest in our last match.

The midfielder found the net twice within the opening 40 minutes to give Yeovil a two nil advantage, before Nottingham Forest pulled one back two minutes after his second. The match was decided in the first 45 minutes as Byron Webster added our third which Upson also got an assist for.

Speaking to the Western Gazette as we gear up for the game against Leeds, the midfielder admitted he was surprised to find himself as our leading goal scorer so far this campaign (he has five goals to his name), but despite that surprise he wants to at least double his current record before the season draws to a close.

'It's always my aim every season, so let's just hope I can get that.'

His opening goal against Nottingham Forest came from a sublime volley, and he followed that up with a 25 yard drilled effort, and whilst he was pleased with his technique for the opener, he did admit it took a slight deflection which certainly did him no harm in the moment.

'I was really pleased with both. We were pinned back a bit in the second half and I did wonder if I would get a chance for a third. It came in the last minute and I thought 'shall I run this into the corner?', but no, I had to go for the hattrick and it was a good strike, but a good save.'

Had it not been for the performance of on loan Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, Upson would've been a shoe in for the Man of the Match result, but on balance the keeper rightly took that accolade on the day, and Upson has no concerns about that at all admitting that he kept us in the match with some 'unbelieveable' saves, joking that people call him 'Mr Consistent' because of how he's played since joining us on loan.
