The Great Glovers Escape
Up until Tuesday night it was five SkyBet Championship games unbeaten for The Glovers after the win over Sheffield Wednesday at Huish Park last weekend.
That 2-0 win would have been a third in a row for us but for the sending off of Byrom Webster, which was of course was overturned, that led to the Reading equaliser as we probably would have seen that through to a win too?
Defeat to Ipswich at Huish Park on Tuesday ended our run and saw us miss a chance of moving out of the bottom three.
I know we've got to be positive at this point, and I am, but I can't help but keep thinking back to the missed Ishmael Miller penalty against Leeds and if we hadn't missed that one we probably would have gone on to win that one too, and be out of the bottom three now.
Charlton have three SkyBet Championship games in hand over us but we still have one in hand over Millwall.
Defeat on Tuesday was a disappointment but even after this we still have this game in hand, against Charlton, over Millwall who lost to Blackpool on the same night as we did Ipswich. The ideal result for us, as both are in SkyBet Championship trouble along with us, would be a draw as it would keep both in the mix but with Millwall closer to us them losing was probably best.
Charlton and Millwall meet this weekend so a draw would be perfect in that one, while we weed to win of course but that'll be easier said than done.
I still believe though and if we pull it off it really will be a 'great Glovers escape' not only due to the gap we bridged but due to the fact we've stayed in the second tier of football in spite of our size and budget restraints.
