Manager Gary Johnson has said he felt the three nil defeat to Queens Park Rangers today was extremely harsh on the team and not deserved.
Speaking to the press following the game Johnson didn't discount the fact that QPR were probably worthy of the victory on an overall balance basis, but he definitely feels the three nil scoreline overly flattered them when you consider we had a good goal disallowed from Luke Ayling and then Tom Lawrence hit the woodwork and could've drawn us level when we were one nil behind.
There's no doubting QPR had plenty of chances in the match, and the official stats say we only had one attempt on target, but it was another of those days where a bit of stubborn luck might have made all the difference.
'I think it was harsh, we had a great first 20 odd minutes and it would've been nice to be one up. then they got their goal and we hit the woodwork which was a great strike and they just aren't going for us at the moment, so we're a bit disappointed to lose by three goals but I don't think we've lost anything with the teams around us down the bottom.'
One advantage is that results in many ways went perfectly for us again, and despite the two recent back to back losses we remain three points off Millwall in 21st place so it remains all to fight for and fighting is certainly what we are doing at the moment.
We also don't have ground to make up on those teams in the dropzone as we are all level on 29 points although Charlton unfortunately have games in hand, but that's why we keep looking at Millwall.
It does show and lead to disappointment, that we have failed to capitalise on other games in the past with how tight it is as three more points would see things look a lot prettier, but when results don't go your way, having other results help does help keep confidence up.
It's a tough run now though fixture wise and we have to hope results don't bite us from the past, Wigan, Bolton, Leicester and then Barnsley in the next four...you can pick any kind of point return from that and still have to fairly declare it as a tough ask.
In slightly better news and something hopefully everyone can take more drive and confidence from, Gary Johnson has also been nominated for the Outstanding Managerial Achievement Award at the Football League Awards which will take place tomorrow.
