Johnson Relishing 2014-15
Manager Gary Johnson is not too downhearted following our relegation from the Championship last season because there were positives and it was a good learning curve for him, the club and those players that remain with us.
Speaking to the Official Site following the release of the fixtures yesterday, that learning curve is clearly something he wants to put into practice this time around so that Yeovil can hopefully have another push for promotion at the first time of asking - and should we achieve that, be in a far better position that we were this time last year.
'I can not wait to get started now. We pretty much start off with a double header against Gillingham. One team could be really happy after knocking the other out of the cup and then taking the three points on the Saturday. We have Doncaster at home to start with followed by Scunthorpe and then we play Barnsley. Two of those fixtures were Championship games last season and with Scunthorpe coming up it will be a good test for us in the first three home games.'
Johnson goes on to say that the other game that stands out is the local derby with Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day and he's looking forward to going back there over a busy Christmas period.
One other fixture will again stand out this season, just as it did the other year when we clinched promotion to the Championship - the double header against Oldham where he'll again face off against his son Lee Johnson.
'Naturally one of the first games I looked out for was Oldham. At least myself and Lee do not have to worry about that fixture until December!'
Lee has a different outlook on that match, joking that depending on how the game goes it may well affect how many Christmas presents he gets this year again.
