Yeovil 1-4 Cardiff

Yeovil 1-4 Cardiff

Yeovil Town started well in the game on Sunday against Cardiff City, but their much improved second half showing proved costly.

Our final Huish Park friendly of the summer build up saw us go down four one to last season's relegated Premier League side, and whilst they obviously had chances in both halves of the game, AJ Leitch-Smith gave us the lead in the first period and we held onto it until after the restart, were Cardiff really stepped up their efforts and unfortunately hit us for four.

With their manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer choosing to change the entire side, two forced replacements through unfortunately injuries, and manager Gary Johnson only making one change, it could be argued that tiredness and fatigue hitting in the second period more than played it's part in our showing - but even then pushing the players like that will have it's rewards for fitness for when the season begins properly.

The most controversial part of the first half really was new signing Brendan Moloney's challenge on Adam Le Fondre in the first period, as it's pretty much accepted that if this had been a competitive game he would've been given his marching orders and not a yellow card, presumably helped by the Cardiff manager calming things.

With chances falling to the opposition though, it was Leitch-Smith who broke the deadlock to add his sixth goal of pre season so far, and he could've added to that with chances that fell his way prior to his goal on 17 minutes.
