Glovers 0 Doncaster 3 - Report
August 9th 2014. 15:00
The SkyBet League 1 season didn't start as it was meant to at Huish Park on Saturday, at least not as it was hoped it would, as The Glovers were well beaten by Doncaster Rovers.
A battle of two of the sides relegated from the SkyBet Championship last season, also promoted into it at the same time, resulted in Doncaster winning comfortably 3-0.
Doncaster were quickest out of the blocks with Curtis Main making the most of a poor clearance to beat Chris Weale, given the nod by Gary Johnson to start in goal, and give the visiting side an early lead.
Johnson, who fielded seven summer signings in the starting 11, would have wanted an instant reply and we almost got it but instead of nestling in the back of the net Aaron Martin's header found the side netting.
Martin was then needed in action at the other end as he cleared away a Nathan Tyson effort. With Tyson and Martin clashing before half time, Martin might have been lucky to escape with only a yellow card for pulling back Tyson, who was going through.
Just as we started to find our feet in the second half we gifted Doncaster the all important second goal. Weale will rue the decision to rush out of his goal as he wasn't quick enough with Harry Forrester beating him to the ball and then finishing into the wide open net.
Even a tripe change didn't make the difference it was hoped.
Weale might find himself on the bench for the next game as again he came out of the box in injury time to be exposed with Theo Robinson chipping him to score the third and final goal for Doncaster with the full time whistle greeted by a chorus of boos.
