It wasn't to be a perfect end to a near perfect week for The Glovers as a SkyBet League 1 relegation battle was lost at Huish Park to Colchester United on Saturday. We had more of the play and more of the chances but it was Colchester that scored the all important goal with a little under 20 minutes to play to go away with a 1-0 win.

Colchester were the first side to wake up, as it were, after a quiet opening to the game they had a couple of chances in quick succession.

Firstly a dangerous run by former Barclays Premier League striker Freddie Sears saw his cross blocked to safety by Cardiff loanee Ben Nugent. Gavin Massey, minutes later, had a first sight at goal but another loanee, Aston Villa goalkeeper, Jed Steer wasn't much troubled.

Simon Gillett bagged the opener against SkyBet League 2 side Accrington Stanley on Tuesday to put us ahead in our FA Cup second round replay and he almost scored his second goal in a week when he hit the target after chesting the ball down then striking a Sam Walker, but this didn't trouble the Colchester goalkeeper too much either.

Looking for something more in the second half Gary Johnson made a change at the break, it didn't much alter the game really but we did see Bolton loanee Tom Eaves go close with a header from close range that Walker reacted quickly to save.

But it was Colchester who finally made the breakthrough, George Moncur's run and then pull back to Craig Eastmond saw him make no mistake, Steer had no chance.

We had to push on, if we did it would leave us exposed at the back but there was no other option and we should have equalised near full time but Walker saved another Eaves header, when he shouldn't have had much of a chance.

Johnson wanted The Glovers out of trouble by the time we faced Manchester United in the FA Cup, we'll have to have a wonderful Christmas now if this is going to happen.

We might not have expected to beat Oldham, but would have Colchester yet the reserve happened and we need to start beating those at the bottom as well as getting points from those nearer the top.
